Patch - Nancy Maldonado Named CEO of The Chicano Federation

The Chicano Federation of San Diego County, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive, neighborhood-based services to underserved youth, families and seniors across San Diego County, announces Nancy Maldonado as its new CEO. Maldonado will lead the organization in meeting the region's ever-increasing needs for quality child development programs, affordable housing, and additional comprehensive programs and services as of January 11. She joined the Chicano Federation in 2017 as senior program director and was promoted to chief operating officer, and then to interim chief executive officer in 2018. Maldonado is a resident of Tierrasanta.

Her knowledge of community-based research and her experience in leading the strategic development of community-based programs and interventions propelled her to the position of Chief Operating Officer in 2018. Nancy worked to improve the quality of the Chicano Federation’s programs and services, and helped build a strong foundation for long-term growth and innovation. In January 2019, Nancy was named Chief Executive Officer of Chicano Federation.

In mid-May, the Chicano Federation of San Diego County (CF) welcomed 485 guests to the US Grant Hotel for a spirited Anniversary Ball celebrating the organization’s 50 years of service to the Latino community. The American civil rights movement of the 1960’s inspired CF’s creation, and it was officially incorporated as a nonprofit community-based organization in 1969. Through the ensuing decades, CF challenged hiring practices and biased portrayals of Latinos in the media, conducted voter registration drives, and worked to further the interests of San Diego’s Latino community.
