Stories of Success

"For 50 years, the Chicano Federation has worked tirelessly for our community, especially working women. By providing our community with access to child care, early childhood education and affordable housing, the Chicano Federation has been the helping hand that has lifted thousands out of the cycle of poverty and continues to build a better future for our communities."

— Lorena Gonzalez, Assemblywoman
"The Chicano Federation is an organization that has impacted the lives of thousands in our communities by providing high quality critical services to those in need. Additionally, the Chicano Federation has embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of our communities by helping hundreds of women become small business owners and increasing access to child care."

— Mary Casillas Salas, Chula Vista Mayor
"Twenty-eight years ago I embarked on a new adventure, starting my own child care business, as caring for children was a passion of mine. I had never been a business owner and was in the dark about many aspects of the child care business. I had very little equipment and educational material. I soon discovered the Chicano Federation, which provided guidance and support in helping me set up my business, and help my by providing infant and toddler educational materials and toys. Working hand in hand with the Chicano Federation, I have cared for many children in the San Diego community.

Since that time, my business has significantly expanded, and I am now providing child care day and nights to serve our communities. I am deeply grateful to the Chicano Federation for enabling me to follow my passion in the child care field!"
